Eastern Cape police seize cocaine worth R12.8m at Ngqura port

Police say the origin and final destination of the drugs is being investigated.

Border Police at the Ngqura sea port in the Eastern Cape seized 32 blocks of cocaine with an estimated street value of R12.8m.

The drugs were found stashed in an empty cargo container earlier this week.

The container was due to transport fruit from South Africa to the United Arab Emirates.

Police Spokesperson Athlenda Mathe says an investigation is underway to determine the origin and destination of the drugs. Through Operation Shanela, the SAPS continues to conduct high-density operations to remove more drugs from the streets of South Africa.

“Since its inception on May 8, 1 686 suspects have been arrested for dealing in drugs in the country.”

No arrests have been made.
