Suspects sought after KZN woman fatally shot and burnt

A 53-year-old woman was attacked by armed men who her son also tried to fight off before he ran to get help.

Police in Mtubatuba, north of Richards Bay, have launched a manhunt for two suspects after a woman was fatally gunned down at her home, and her body and house set alight.

The incident occurred at about 01:00 on Friday in Nsolweni.

Upon arrival at the scene, police found the body of Khanyisile Prisca Mncwango (53) with burn wounds.

KZN police spokesperson Captain Sbusiso Mkhize says the woman’s son, Bayanda, told them his mother had called for him and that when he came to where she was, he saw two armed suspects who were covering their faces.

“He said he tried to fight off the men but did not succeed. He then ran to a neighbour’s house to ask for help. When he came back, he found his mother lying dead on the ground, burnt, and the house she was sleeping in burnt,” adds Mkhize.

He says the police are investigating the matter and have urged members of the public who may have information that may lead to the arrest of the suspects, to come forward.
