Watch: Stirring rendition of national anthem ‘delivers hope’ before Rugby World Cup
It’s Nkosi Sikelel’ iAfrika like you've never heard it before as Checkers rallies behind the Boks to ‘bring it home’.
Checkers Sixty60 has jokingly been touted as South Africa’s biggest ‘biker gang’, and with their luminous teal motorcycles and driver outfits, they have delivered groceries and other items to many households.
Now, as the 2023 Rugby World Cup fast approaches, they have made another delivery – this time to the hearts of citizens.
Partnering with vocalist Yonwaba Qetswana (12), pianist Luca Human, choral conductor André van der Merwe, the wives of Springboks and several ‘ordinary’ South Africans, they delivered a ‘message of support’ for the men in green and gold.
“We harnessed the power of our national anthem to produce a rendition of Nkosi Sikelel’ iAfrika in a never-before-seen style, with a powerhouse of industry specialists and exceptional local talent. Together, we delivered a united message of support: Bring it home,” reads their video description on YouTube.
