Family tragedy: 4 dead in murders and attempted suicide in Gauteng
A woman is recovering in hospital after she was reportedly shot by her husband, who it is believed also shot three other family members and a domestic worker.
Two shooting incidents – in Bredell, Kempton Park, and Fairlands, Benoni – have reportedly resulted in four deaths, while two more people are recovering in hospital.
In the first shooting, in Kempton Park, a man is said to have fired shots at two elderly family members.
“It is believed that a man driving a red Toyota bakkie arrived at the first scene in Bredell, Kempton Park, ahead of two elderly residents in a white Toyota Corolla,” says Kempton Park police spokesperson Sergeant Dipuo Ditshego.
She explains that shortly after the elderly residents arrived at the premises, several shots were heard and when police arrived they found their bodies in a room of the house.
“During preliminary police investigations, it was determined that the suspect who had fled the scene at high speed was a family member of the two deceased. The suspect then drove to another property in Fairlands, Benoni, where a second shooting took place. It is believed the suspect shot himself and his wife at the Benoni property,” adds Ditshego.
However, more details of the second shooting, published by the Benoni City Times, reveal two more victims at the house.
The publication states that police in their precinct confirmed that a 56-year-old domestic worker and a 22-year-old woman were also shot and killed at this premises, just after noon.
It is believed that the man’s wife was airlifted to hospital with gunshot wounds. Unconfirmed reports state the man is also in hospital under police guard after he attempted suicide.
Once a clearer picture of both crimes emerges, the story will be updated.
