Tributes pour in after boxing legend George Foreman passes away

George Foreman held the record as the oldest heavyweight champion at age 45. His family said he passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones.

Two-time world heavyweight boxing champion and Olympic gold medalist George Foreman passed away at the age of 76 yesterday, his family said.

The family said on Foreman’s Instagram account “Our hearts are broken. With profound sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved George Edward Foreman Sr. who peacefully departed on March 21 surrounded by loved ones.”

They described him as ‘a devout preacher, devoted husband, loving father and a proud grand and great grandfather’ who lived a life ‘marked by unwavering faith, humility and purpose’.

Foreman holds the record as the oldest heavyweight champion at age 45.

He and Muhammad Ali stepped into the ring for their famous ‘Rumble in the Jungle’ fight in 1976 where he lost his title to Ali.

On X, Mike Tyson posted that Foreman’s contribution to boxing will not be forgotten. Here are some tributes posted on social media:
