4 suspects shot dead after Alberton liquor store robbery

Four suspects were killed in a shoot-out with police after robbing a liquor store and fleeing along the N12 highway in Alberton.

A business robbery at Dog Box Liquor Store on Kritzinger Avenue in Verwoerdpark, Alberton, ended in a deadly shoot-out between suspects and police yesterday.

Comaro Chronicle reports that, according to City of Ekurhuleni spokesperson Zweli Dlamini, five suspects fled the scene in a silver Renault Triber.

They travelled along Kritzinger Avenue, joined the N3 northbound, and then took the N12 west at the Elands Interchange.

Police gave chase, but the suspects began shooting at officers while on the N12 near Voortrekker Road.

Police returned fire, fatally wounding four of the suspects during the gun battle.

One of the suspects was shot in the leg during the exchange and was later transported to Thelle Mogoerane Hospital by a Netcare ambulance for medical attention.

Police investigations are ongoing.
