2 suspects killed in high-speed police shoot-out

Robbery suspects killed in KwaMsane following a police chase along the N2.

Two suspected armed robbers were fatally shot, while another was seriously injured during a shoot-out with police in KwaMsane in KZN yesterday morning (June 2).

The Zululand Observer reports that police in Hluhluwe received a report from a victim who had been robbed by armed suspects in the area.

KZN SAPS spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said officers responded swiftly after a vehicle matching the description was spotted travelling southbound on the N2.

“Police gave chase, and the uMkhanyakude District Task Team provided backup. The pursuit continued from Hluhluwe to KwaMsane, where a shoot-out ensued,” said Netshiunda.

Police initially believed that three suspects had been fatally wounded, but one of them later regained consciousness while forensic officers were taking photos and was subsequently rushed to hospital under police guard.

“Three firearms were recovered from the suspects, and police are still searching for at least three others who narrowly evaded arrest. No police officers were injured during the shoot-out,” he said.
