Watch: Long weekend traffic and roadworks cause delays on Mpumalanga’s N4
Motorists travelling towards Mbombela are urged to drive with caution as lane closures and increased traffic volumes cause congestion on the N4.
Roadworks and an influx of motorists travelling towards Mbombela as the long weekend begins have resulted in severe congestion on the N4.
A Caxton Network News reader, who provided a video showing congestion from the Ultra City towards Mbombela, described her journey as a ‘nightmare’.
She said traffic had, at times, come to a complete standstill and was moving at less than 20km/h, with several lane closures along the route.
The reader also raised concerns about motorists’ reckless behaviour, saying they are taking chances and putting other people’s lives at risk, simply because they don’t ‘want to wait it out’.
Trac N4 spokesperson Solange Soares said there have been no accidents or other issues along the route today (August 7).
“The heavy traffic is because there are more motorists travelling due to the long weekend. The roadworks and lane closures have also reduced the available lanes.”
Soares urged motorists to exercise caution when driving and contact the organisation’s emergency helpdesk on 0800 87 22 64 for any roadside assistance.
