Woman’s body found near University of Limpopo campus fence

Mankweng police suspect a 22-year-old woman may have fallen into a trench, with an inquest underway to establish the circumstances of her death.

Police in Mankweng have opened an inquest docket after the body of a 22-year-old woman was found along Sovenga Street, next to the University of Limpopo campus fence, this morning (October 4).

Polokwane Review reports that officers on patrol in Sovenga, around the Turfloop campus, were alerted to a motionless body at about 06:00.

Upon arrival at the scene, police found the woman lying with her head in a trench alongside the fence. No visible external injuries were observed on her body. A bag containing her identity document was found next to her.

Emergency medical services personnel were called to the scene and certified her dead.

Police said the exact cause and circumstances of her death are still being established through an inquest, though an accidental fall into the trench is suspected.

The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending the notification of her next of kin.
