LIMPOPO – Police on patrol in Sovenga were alerted early on Sunday morning to a woman lying motionless along the University of Limpopo campus fence.

Mankweng police have opened an inquest docket after the body of a 22-year-old woman was found along Sovenga Street, next to the campus fence, at about 06:00 on Sunday, October 4.

According to police, officers who were on patrol received information about the woman and rushed to the scene. They found her with her head inside a trench next to the fence.

Police say no visible external injuries were seen on her body at the scene. A bag containing her identity document was found next to her.

Emergency Medical Services were called and declared her dead at the scene.

Police suspect she may have fallen accidentally into the trench, but say the exact circumstances of her death are still being established.

Her identity will be released once her family has been notified.
