Man killed, 2 injured after vehicle chase at Polokwane Cricket Club

A vehicle break-in attempt turned fatal over the weekend when a driver confronted suspects outside an event.

The Polokwane Traffic Department has confirmed that one man died on the scene and two others were injured and taken to hospital after being hit by a vehicle at the Cricket Club parking lot on Saturday night (October,3), reports Polokwane Review.

The incident allegedly occurred after a group broke into several vehicles parked outside the grounds where an event was taking place.

Driver allegedly chased suspects

Traffic spokesperson Kgaugelo Mphago said information at their disposal indicates the group allegedly attempted to break into a vehicle whose driver was sleeping inside.

The driver then started the vehicle and tried to chase them, resulting in the accident.

Second suspect arrested

Mphago said another suspect was arrested for possession of 17 suspected stolen cellphones.

The matter has been handed over to the police and investigations are continuing.

Questions sent to police

Questions have been sent to Limpopo police spokespersons Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba and Colonel Malesela Ledwaba for confirmation of the number of arrests, the types of vehicles involved and other crimes reported on the day.

This follows reports on social media from residents that another body was found in the same vicinity on Sunday morning.

A police update will follow.
