World-class strongman: Roodepoort’s Kroezen dominates powerlifting and slap fighting rankings
Vernon Kroezen broke two of his own powerlifting records and is also ranked third in Africa in slap fighting.
Vernon Kroezen (44) has cemented his reputation as one of the best powerlifting champions after he broke his own record at the world level, representing South Africa.
The World Championships took place in Durban on November 2 and saw Vernon competing in the 110 to 110kg master class one (40 to 45 years) category against contestants from countries like Australia, America and Ukraine.
Roodepoort Record reports that Kroezen smashed the national strict-arm-curl record, raising the bar from 65kg to an impressive 70kg, and he also topped his free-standing record, lifting 100kg after previously besting 92kg.
He capped his remarkable achievements by earning the trophy for best in his class – a testament to his hard work, perseverance and unwavering dedication. With the accolade in hand, he is now set to don South Africa’s colours and represent the nation on the European stage.
“It still doesn’t feel real that I’m a champion in my category, but, amazingly, my hard work and dedication to the gym are paying off,” he said, adding that he has been training and going to the gym for the past 10 years.
However, he started entering this sport a few months ago, and it is the competitive spirit and desire to try new challenges that have led him into it.
In addition to his powerlifting achievements, Vernon is also into slap fighting and is currently ranked third in Africa after a nail-biting competition that recently took place in Carnival City.
