11 arrested in separate Centurion drug busts
The Tshwane Metro Police Pepartment’s (TMPD) special projects unit arrested three suspects after a successful drug raid in Centurion, Gauteng.
Police said they acted swiftly to an anonymous tip off and raided the house yesterday afternoon. They arrested three Nigerian suspects, all of whom were legally living in South Africa after they had been granted asylum, Centurion Rekord reported.
In total, illegal drugs to the value of R220 000 and R5 460 in cash were seized, police said.
The drugs included Cat, ecstasy, LSD, DMA, crystal meth, dagga, nyaope and heroin, police added.
Police said that was the second successful drug bust in a week.
On Friday January 2, the special projects unit arrested eight suspects, some for selling and others for attempting to buy drugs in various parts of Centurion, including Valhalla and Zwartkop.
Five alleged drug dealers were arrested during an antidrug operation by the Tshwane Metro Police’s special projects unit last year December.
In a separate incident, a 52-year-old man was arrested in a multimillion-rand drug bust in Maitland, Cape Town, in December last year.
He was arrested after police received a tip off about drugs being stored at a business’ premises.
After permission was granted to the police to search the premises, they soon discovered 63 bags — each contained mandrax powder, as well as 18 plastic bags containing methamphetamine (tik) and three scales, said Colonel Tembinkosi Kinana.
The drugs were estimated to have a street value of R9 million.
