2 lion cubs found in Westville: Man taken in for questioning

An unusual discovery at a property in the Durban suburb has led to a criminal case being opened at the local police station.

A 23-year-old man was taken in for questioning this afternoon after two cubs were found at a property in Westville, Durban.

Westville SAPS communications officer Captain Elizabeth Squires says the SPCA received an anonymous call with regards to the cubs kept in Westville.

“SPCA, together with SAPS and KZN Ezemvelo Wildlife, approached the property, [and confirmed that] the information was positive.”

According to Squires, Westville detectives will investigate as a criminal case of the National Environmental Management Act 107 of 1998 has been opened.
