25-hour Joburg water disruption postponed

The water disruptions planned for parts of Johannesburg this weekend have been postponed until further notice, Rand Water confirmed today.

According to the parastatal’s spokesperson, Justice Mohale, the decision came out of a need for further communication with stakeholders.

“We needed to engage more with our stakeholders and broaden the scope of engagement,” he said.

The disruptions were scheduled to take place between January 24 at 6pm and January 25 at 7pm due to maintenance being done at the Eikenhof pump station.

Some of the areas said to be affected include: Constantia Kloof, Weltevreden Park, Zandspruit, Randparkridge, Sundowner, Northwold, Honeydew, Ruimsig and parts of North Riding; Brixton, Melville, Auckland Park, Greenside, Westcliff, Parkview, Fordsburg and Northcliff were also expected to experience interruptions.

Although it was previously reported the maintenance would result in poor water pressure or no water at all, Mohale said normal water supply would largely go uninterrupted.

“When [the maintenance] happens, residents and the municipalities’ reservoirs will still have enough water,” he said.

Mohale added the new dates for the scheduled disruptions would be announced soon.

“We will inform our clients City of Johannesburg Metropolitan and Ekurhuleni municipalities, who will then communicate the dates to residents,” Mohale said.
