Mpumalanga police commissioner Lieutenant-General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has praised the provincial Anti-Gang Unit for apprehending four individuals aged between 17 to 21.

The developments follow an incident on June 17 in which a group of suspects entered Carolina Hospital and allegedly assaulted the personnel and patients and robbed them of their personal belongings.

The group allegedly also vandalised hospital properties, leaving a trail of destruction in their wake.

According to the information available at the time, the behavior occurred after a man was taken to the hospital, but later died from gunshot wounds he sustained.

When the news reached the individuals who took him to the hospital for medical treatment, all hell broke loose, and they went on a rampage, causing mayhem for all who were there.

The government and the general population both severely denounced this behavior.

That disruptive behavior did not sit well with the province’s police management, and a team of professionals in the investigative area was created under the supervision of Manamela.

The general swore that no stone would be left unturned, and she did not mince her words when suggesting that the perpetrators would be pursued and brought to justice.

When the perpetrators were apprehended, the vigilant members discovered a cellphone that had been stolen during the heist on the day of the incident.

The four suspects are scheduled to appear in Carolina Magistrate’s Court on Monday to face charges related to malicious property damage, business robbery, and possession of suspected stolen property.

Meanwhile, the commissioner has issued a strong warning to anyone who targets health personnel.

“We cannot allow our health facilities as well as the workers thereof to be working in fear of lawless individuals who parade around instilling fear among the communities. That will have to stop and it will never be allowed as long as the police are here.

“We are working very hard to ensure that each one of those that were involved in attacking our health facilities, especially in the incidents that were recently reported. We will not rest until we bring each one of them to justice like we did with these four suspects,” the general warned.
