Another accused added to Eskom power station procurement trial

Five accused of colluding with a service provider to drastically inflate prices charged to Tutuka power station, appeared in court today.

Zandile Rosemary Ngcobo (43), an Eskom employee stationed at Tutuka Power Station as a procurement officer, made her first appearance in the Middelburg Specialised Commercial Crimes Court earlier today.

Ngcobo was released on R5 000 bail by the Standerton Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, after she was arrested by the Middelburg-based Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation’s Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team for fraud, theft and money laundering.

The investigation revealed that in 2021, Eskom Tutuka Power Station issued an order to Umnandi Conference and Catering for the purchase and delivery of two containers at the power station.

The accused, as a procurement officer, allegedly colluded with the service provider Umnandi Services, and submitted fraudulent documents, inflating the prices for the containers from R60 000 to R939 000 each.

Ngcobo appeared alongside Annemarie Stander (55), Jessica Khubheka (61), Solomon Twala (59) and Nomsa Sibiya (49).

They will return to court on June 8.

The case was postponed for disclosure of the docket contents and finalisation of the charge sheet.
