Armed robbers hit Richards Bay Spar

Police have opened a case of business robbery after four armed men allegedly robbed the Lakeside Spar in Richards Bay on Sunday morning.

The suspects reportedly forced themselves into the manager’s office while he was handing over the store’s takings to a cash-in-transit guard, Zululand Observer reported.

After removing the guard’s firearm, the men fled with an undisclosed amount of money before driving off, reportedly in a powder blue Mercedes Benz.

No injuries were reported during the incident. However, live ammunition was reportedly found at the shop’s entrance by the forensic team.

Police spokesperson Debbie Ferreira said a case for business robbery had been opened and no suspects had been arrested.

Earlier this month, two suspects were arrested for allegedly robbing a tuck shop and being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition in KwaMashu, Durban.

An unidentified victim was reportedly at his tuck shop in J section, KwaMashu, when he was approached by three suspects at gunpoint.

They threatened him with a firearm and took an undisclosed amount of cash and airtime vouchers before they fled the scene on foot.
