‘Baby porn’ accused granted bail

An alleged sex offender is expected to appear again in KwaZulu-Natal’s Scottburgh Magistrates’ Court in November after he was found in possession of child pornography.

The arrest was the result of an international investigation into child pornography syndicates operating in the country, national police spokesperson Solomon Makgale said.

The 22-year-old was arrested earlier this month after police searched his house. A laptop containing thousands of images of children and videos was found, South Coast Herald reported.

Among the other items seized were a plastic child blow-up doll, five cellphones, two secure digital memory cards, 80 compact discs, two iPads, two desktop computers and two external hard drives.

Various costumes, dresses and panties were also found. The man’s grandmother, with whom he lived, has said he liked to pretend to be a girl and dressed up as such.

“He admitted that viewing the images as well as his fetish for dressing up like a girl had become an addiction,” Makgale was quoted as saying.

The man appeared in the Scottburgh Magistrates’ Court on the day of his arrested where he was released on R1 000 bail.

He is expected to appear again on November 10.
