Boys (10) in court for rape, murder

Two boys, both aged 10, are due to appear in the Ubombo District Court in Jozini, KwaZulu-Natal, today for rape and murder.

The two boys allegedly raped and murdered the one boy’s seven-year-old sister, and they then buried her body in a shallow grave in the family’s yard, Vryheid Herald reported.

It was alleged the young victim had gone missing for two days, and community members had feared she had fallen into a long-drop toilet.

Her body was discovered after community members came together and formed a search party.

The boys are now detained in a place of safety in Newcastle.

Investigations are ongoing.

In a separate incident, a 15-year-old boy was arrested for hacking another teenager to death with an axe in Zingqayi village, Butterworth, following an argument earlier this month.

It was alleged the two had attended a traditional ceremony in the village.

As they were leaving around 6pm, they had exchanged unpleasant jokes with each other, Captain Jackson Manatha said.

“The one boy went home to fetch an axe,” said Manatha.

He allegedly returned and attacked the boy, also aged 15, who was later taken to hospital. He died upon arrival, said Manatha.
