Centurion taxi owner shot dead
A man believed to have been a taxi owner has been shot and killed in his vehicle in Monavoni, Centurion.
An eyewitness, who was at the scene on the corner of Tulip and Louise streets shortly after the shooting said he had heard the first gunshots just after 7pm yesterday, Centurion Rekord reported.
The witness, who preferred to stay anonymous, said he had immediately gone to the scene and discovered the lifeless body of a man behind the steering wheel.
“The man had several shot wounds to his body,” said the witness.
It was believed the bakkie’s hazards had been flickering and a cellphone had been ringing on the dashboard
There was money on the passenger seat and bullet holes in the door, said the witness.
It was believed the first shots had been fired a few metres from where the bakkie had been found.
The witness said he had found several empty bullet shells, believed to be those of a 9mm pistol and an R5 rifle, scattered on the ground.
Police spokesperson Captain Louise Steynberg confirmed the shooting, saying she, however, could not provide more information as details surrounding the shooting were at the time still sketchy.
Investigations are ongoing.
In a separate incident, a man was found shot dead next to his car on the M2 highway near Denver, south of Johannesburg, in December last year.
It was alleged a metro police patrol saw the car with its bonnet open.
The man, believed to be in his 40s, was found nearby with a gunshot wound to the head.
