Covid-19: 2 258 new cases, 282 deaths on 18 August

The total number of Covid-19 deaths, since the start of the outbreak in South Africa, sits at 12 264.

Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize reported on 18 August that 2 258 new cases of Covid-19 were identified.

The cumulative total of Covid-19 cases sits at 592 144 with 485 468 recoveries, translating to a recovery rate of 82 per cent.

Gauteng remains the province with the highest total number of cases, sitting at 200 949 (33.9 per cent), followed by KwaZulu-Natal with 106 565 (18 per cent), Western Cape with 102 739 (17.4 per cent) and the Eastern Cape with 84 144 (14.2 per cent).

A further 282 Covid-19-related deaths were recorded on 18 August with 66 from the Eastern Cape, 89 from Gauteng, 57 from KwaZulu-Natal, three from the Northern Cape, 13 from Free State, 34 from the Western Cape and 20 from North West.

The total number of recorded Covid-19 deaths sits at 12 264, since the start of the outbreak.

The total number of tests to date sits at 3 430 347 with 14 677 new tests conducted since 17 August.
