Dad arrested for son’s murder

A 25-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly killing his son in a fit of rage in Winterveldt, north of Pretoria, on Thursday evening.

Police spokesperson Constable Petunia Chabangu said the man had allegedly been angry and frustrated with his 7-year-old son, Rekord North reported.

“He grabbed the boy by the neck and threw him onto his bed,” Chabangu said.

The boy had just returned home from school and was still in uniform. Police said the boy bounced off the bed and hit the wall, suffering a severe head injury.

Neighbours apparently heard the little boy screaming from pain and went to investigate.

“They found the boy on the floor, unresponsive,” said Chabangu.

The police and paramedics were called to the scene but by the time they arrived, the boy had already died.

Chabangu said police had to rescue the man from an angry mob intent on meting out street justice.

“He was brutally injured and was rushed to Dr George Mukhari Hospital where he is said to be in critical but stable condition. He remains under police guard,” said Chabangu.

A neighbour who spoke on condition of anonymity alleged the father had been smoking dagga before he attacked the child.

Meanwhile, a 36-year-old man was still recovering in a Polokwane hospital this week after heallegedly murdered his four sons before attempting to take his own life.

Provincial police spokesperson Colonel Ronel Otto said: “The man had collected the children and went to Gauteng to visit his wife. It is alleged when they returned home to the village of Magatle, he killed the four children, all boys.

“He allegedly cut all four boys’ throats with a knife and afterwards attempted to commit suicide,” Otto said.
