Dog rescued from snake-filled pool in KZN

A frightened dog was rescued this morning after she was trapped in a pool filled with snakes in Bluff, KwaZulu-Natal.

A local snake wrangler, Shaun Venter, whose main focus is to retrieve snakes, was alerted to a dog in distress in Brighton Road. The dog was reportedly trapped in a pool with shallow water and bush snakes, Southlands Sun reported.

With the assistance of a neighbour and friend, Debbie Andre, Venter approached the troubled dog.

“We could see she was very aggressive, but that was all due to being frightened because of her ordeal,” said Venter.

“I managed to get my hook stick under her collar and had to drag her out as she was not moving. She was cold, very tired and had a cut on her paw,” added Venter.

The injured dog was rushed to a vet, where she was examined.

In a separate incident, an eight-month-old dog was killed by a python on the eastern boundary of Seaward Estate in Ballito, Dolphin Coast, in KwaZulu-Natal.

Joe Reeler from Seaward Estate said the dog was outside of the boundary fence when it was unfortunately caught by the python.

Specialised Rescue Unit (SRU) arrived on the scene to find the python wrapped itself around the dog.
