Drug manufacturing suspect arrested

A 38-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly manufacturing drugs at a house in Dal Fouche in Springs, Gauteng, yesterday.

Police spokesperson Captain Johannes Ramphora said the investigation had begun when the police received information about possible drug manufacturing at a house in Dal Fouche, Springs Advertiser reported.

The detectives went to the house and started questioning the suspect, who denied the allegations.

After being questioned, the suspect had claimed he was manufacturing soap, police said.

In the garage, police found a motor and several drums of various ingredients such as methylated spirits used by the suspect for manufacturing the crack cocaine.

Ramphora said the detectives had worked through the night to search for the drugs and found several places in the garden where the finished product had been buried.

In one of the holes, they had found packets of cocaine, plastic packets used for packaging purposes, money and a cellphone, Ramphora said.

The suspect was taken to the Springs police cells, where he will remain until his court appearance.

In a separate incident, a 52-year-old man was arrested in a multimillion-rand drug bust in Maitland, Cape Town, in December last year.

The suspect was arrested after police received a tip-off about drugs being stored at a business premises.

The drugs were estimated to have a street value of R9 million.
