Durban e-hailing driver shoots and kills passengers who robbed him

A teen requested a ride, but when the driver arrived at the pick-up spot, three more people climbed in and subsequently attacked him.

Two men were shot and killed by an e-hailing driver at the corner of Pascal and Mia avenues, Wentworth, Durban after they allegedly robbed him over the weekend.

KZN police spokesperson Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo says it is alleged that a 17-year-old requested a ride from an e-hailing company.

“On arrival at the pick-up spot, there were three more people who informed the driver that they were with the teenager. During the ride, the driver was attacked, and a firearm was pointed at him.

“He was robbed of his cellphone and cash during the incident. The victim allegedly managed to escape and shot at the suspects with his own firearm. Reports indicate that two of the suspects were rushed to hospital, where they were declared dead,” Ngcobo adds.

It is unclear what happened to the teen and the other man.

Wentworth police have opened an inquest as well as an armed robbery docket for investigation.
