Durban police officer arrested for conspiracy to commit murder
The exhaustive investigation into criminality in Wentworth, Durban by detectives from the Provincial Organised Crime Unit led to the shocking arrest of a warrant officer stationed at Wentworth SAPS.
Following a lengthy investigation conducted by the Provincial Organised Crime Unit, as well as the National Intervention Unit, the policeman was arrested on Friday, September 18, Rising Sun Chatsworth reports.
Provincial SAPS spokesman, Brig Jay Naicker, confirmed that the man was arrested on a conspiracy to commit murder case that is currently in court.
“The 49-year-old police officer appeared in the Durban Magistrates Court on Friday and was remanded into custody until Wednesday, September 23. He will now join his five co-accused, who were arrested last month,” said Brig Naicker.
Acting KwaZulu Natal provincial commissioner, Maj Gen Thulani Gonya, welcomed the latest arrest.
“We are very pleased with the steady progress of the investigations and this is being supported by the community, who are coming forward with concrete information that is aiding the investigations,” he said.
