East Rand man found stabbed to death

A case of murder has been opened after the body of an unknown man was found in the Daggafontein informal settlement in Springs, on the East Rand.

Springs police spokesperson Captain Johannes Ramphora said a passerby discovered the body at 2.30am on Saturday along Main Street and sought help, Springs Advertiser reported.

Ramphora added the man managed to flag down a passing vehicle and the driver took him to the Springs Police Station. When police arrived, they found the man with a stab wound to his chest and a knife next to him.

He said police called Ekurhuleni Emergency Services and paramedics declared the man dead on the scene.

The deceased’s wallet, which contained several bank cards and R50, was in his pocket.

No arrests have been made. Investigations are continuing.

In a separate incident, a man was found stabbed in the head on the corner of Church and Post Office streets in Joburg North, in July.

Douglasdale police spokesperson Warrant Officer Balan Muthan said the man was found on the street with a stab wound in the left part of his head.

Neighbourhood Watch Sector 1 Douglasdale CPF and Netcare 911 were on scene to treat the patient. He was later taken to Helen Joseph Hospital for treatment.
