Final voting districts being counted
The DA has joined the call by political parties that voting districts be audited by the IEC.
With less than 10 voting districts left to count, the results of the 2019 national and provincial elections appear all but sealed, Rekord North reports.
On Saturday morning the ANC still led comfortably on a national level with 57.5 per cent of the votes followed by the DA (20.78 per cent), EFF (10.79 per cent) and the IFP (3.37 per cent).
The ANC had received 10 007 874 of the votes at the time of writing.
On a provincial level, 2 150 724 of the votes had gone to the ANC securing them a 50.18 per cent lead.
They were followed by the DA (27.48 per cent) and the EFF (14.67 per cent).
99.86 per cent of the votes had been counted so far.
Meanwhile, representatives of the DA, Cope, UDM and ACDP have forged a partnership to ensure that the 2019 elections are indeed free and fair.
“We met in order to agree that the IEC conduct an audit of all voting districts where instances of voters voting more than once took place,” said DA federal executive chairperson James Self.
“Furthermore, a random audit of other voting districts must take place, in order to get an overall report of this issue.”
Selfe said to ensure the audit was transparent and done with integrity, it had to be overseen by political parties.
“When the results are announced there should be no doubt in the minds of the people of South Africa that the election was free and fair.”
