Five rhino found dead on Sunday

A fifth rhino was reportedly survived the attack, but it is unknown at this stage whether or not it can be saved, Zululand Observer reported.

It is believed the poaching incident took place on Saturday, and the rhino were discovered on Sunday afternoon.

Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife spokesperson Musa Mntambo confirmed the incident and said investigators were piecing together the time each incident occurred

This after five white rhino were killed and two others  survived dehorning in less than two weeks at the same park late last month and early September.

Tourists discovered a rhino carcass near Memorial Gate in the HiP and reported it to authorities.

Rangers found the carcass and also two dehorned, dazed rhinos and a calf that survived the poaching incident.

“It is suspected the rhinos were darted,” Mntambo said.

He added the surviving rhino were being looked after in secure bomas in HiP. Mntambo said no implements were recovered from the scene.
