Gauteng childhood friends’ brawl over chair ends in death

It is alleged that two friends had an argument at a tavern which led to a fatal stabbing.

A man appeared at the Sebokeng Magistrate’s Court in Gauteng on Wednesday to answer a charge of murder after he allegedly stabbed and killed his childhood friend this past weekend.

It is alleged that the two friends, the accused and Lehlohonolo Moshodi (25) from Evaton West, fought over a chair at a local tavern on Sunday afternoon.

Following the incident, Lehlohonolo is said to have gone home but was fatally stabbed, allegedly by the suspect, while he was at a shop close to his house.

His mother, Mamokete Moshodi, says, “My son arrived home and told us that he had an argument with his friend over a chair and decided to come home.”

Mamokete says Lehlohonolo alerted her that he was going to the shop, and minutes later she heard screams coming from that direction. She rushed to the scene.

Lehlohonolo’s brother Peter (37) says the suspect had been looking for his brother, armed with a knife, following their argument.

Lehlohonolo was rushed to the local clinic, where he succumbed to his wounds.

The police confirmed that a suspect was arrested on Monday and charged with murder. His court case was postponed until July 12.
