Gauteng Covid-19 active cases at 19 974

280 new cases were recorded.

Gauteng’s overall Covid-19 positive cases climbed to 217 759 with 193 701 recoveries and 4 084 deaths thus far, according to figures published by the Department of Health.

This saw the province having about 19 974 active cases.

The Gauteng province recorded 280 new cases on Tuesday.

The Department of Health said out of 139 457  contacts traced (individuals who were in contact with a person who tested positive for Covid-19), 119 201  people have completed the 10 days monitoring period, with no symptoms reported and were de-isolated.

The number of hospitalised people due to Covid-19 in the province stood at 1 863.

Breakdown per district of cases and recoveries:

– Johannesburg: 87 122 cases and 81 487 recoveries

– Ekurhuleni: 48 924 cases and 47 615 recoveries

– Tshwane: 48 109 cases and 41 318 recoveries

– Sedibeng: 14 784 cases and 11 357 recoveries

– West Rand: 14 062 cases and 11 924 recoveries
