Gauteng Covid-19 active cases at 20 803

Gauteng’s overall Covid-19 positive cases climbed to 217 716 with 192 886 recoveries and 4 027 deaths thus far, according to figures published by the Department of Health.

This saw the province having about 20 803 active cases.

The Gauteng province recorded 325 new cases on Saturday.

The Department of Health said out of 135 683 contacts traced (individuals who were in contact with a person who tested positive for Covid-19), 115 489 people have completed the 10 days monitoring period, with no symptoms reported and were de-isolated.

The number of hospitalised people due to Covid-19 in the province stood at 1 932.

Breakdown per district of cases and recoveries:

• Johannesburg: 86 929 cases and 81 186 recoveries
• Ekurhuleni: 48 793 cases and 47 466 recoveries
• Tshwane: 47 885 cases and 41 056 recoveries
• Sedibeng: 14 734 cases and 11 285 recoveries
• West Rand: 14 027 cases and 11 893 recoveries
