Hearing into teacher assault concluded
The disciplinary process into the assault of a teacher by a grade 7 pupil at Rosslyn Primary School in Pretoria, has been concluded.
Gauteng education spokesperson Phumla Sekhonyane said this week the department’s findings had been sent to the pupil’s head of department for ratification, Rekord North reported.
Sekhonyane would not reveal the outcome of the hearing.
The pupil had been accused of assaulting his teacher with his fists. It is believed the incident occurred after the teacher had confiscated the pupil’s raincoat because it was not prescribed school attire.
The pupil allegedly returned with friends and assaulted the teacher. He was also accused of racist remarks made as he allegedly told the vice-principal he “does not like white people”.
Following the alleged attack, the pupil was suspended while counselling was provided for the teacher.
Sekhonyane reiterated the department’s condemnation of the attack, but said its findings would not be discussed with the media.
