Human skull found in Amanzimtoti
The Snare Aware group made a gruesome discovery during one of their recent trips into Toti’s green areas.
The group of nature lovers, who are ridding the area of snares, discovered a human skull.
To ensure safety and effectiveness, the group prefers to remain anonymous. “We found it in an area behind Kingsway Hospital during an outing on Saturday, 25 July. The skull looked bashed in,” said the spokesperson for the group. They left the skull where it was found and alerted Toti SAPS.
“We found and removed 11 snares and another huge bush pig pit trap close to Toti Stables on Sunday, 2 August. We also discovered fresh bush pig hide in an area behind Doon Heights Primary School. We were informed that poachers are clearing the bush, baiting the pigs with offal placed in a lunchbox and then shooting them from their perch in a tree.”
The group was dismayed to find a cat caught in a snare. “It was rotting, but still had fur on, so we estimate it was caught about a month ago. We also found red duiker spoor, which is very rare for this area.”
