Intelligence-driven operations continue in Wentworth
The Wentworth community has seen an alarming increase in the crime rate in recent weeks and in a bid to bring stability, the KwaZulu-Natal Pop Reserve Unit was deployed in the area.
The police officers have been working tirelessly in the last few days, conducting patrols and stop and searches, Rising Sun Chatsworth reports.
During a patrol last Wednesday, an informant provided them with information on a man, who was allegedly in possession of suspected stolen property and was also allegedly dealing drugs.
“The officers went into the flat and searched the premises. They found a bag filled with working tools, various watches, cellphones and other items in the flat. The officers further searched and plastic packets containing dagga and whizz were found and small bank packets, which were suspected to be used for drug purposes,” said Cpt Mbuso Gumede, Wentworth SAPS communications officer.
The man was arrested after failing to give transactional proof for being in possession of these items. “The 23-year-old man was detained for possession of property suspected to be stolen and for being in possession of drugs,” added Cpt Gumede.
He appeared in the Wentworth Court, last Thursday.
