KZN divers recover child’s body

The body of a 12-year-old boy who drowned washed up in the jet-ski area opposite the Bay Hall in Richard’s Bay, KwaZulu-Natal, yesterday.

This after police divers fruitlessly searched for him for two days, Zululand Observer reported.

The boy had been reported missing after he was last seen in the water at about 7pm on New Year’s Day.

Lifeguards working in the area had reportedly gone off duty on the day.

Witnesses pointed out to divers the spot they said the boy had swum to in an attempt to reach marker buoys some distance from the shore.

The divers reportedly searched the area for hours on Friday and Saturday as family members stood vigil while frolicking bathers seemed unaware of the incident.

On Friday, the body of a seven-year-old boy who drowned was found in Nature’s Valley Beach near Plettenberg Bay in the Western Cape.

The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) was notified of the boy about 11.30am and efforts to resuscitate him were exhausted.

The boy was later declared dead on the scene.
