KZN fatal school stabbing: Learners plead guilty

It is believed one of the accused instructed the deceased to polish his shoes which he refused to do.

Two learners from Mfolozi High School in Mtabutuba, KwaZulu-Natal, pleaded guilty after they were arrested last year for the fatal stabbing of fellow learner and the injuring of another, believed to be bully related.

Bandile Simphiwe Dube (19) and a 16-year-old minor who cannot be named, were involved in the stabbing of two learners, Khumbulani Mgabhi (18) and his 17-year-old friend who was hospitalised and discharged a few days after the incident.

It is alleged that the stabbings were the result of suspected bullying after one of the accused allegedly instructed the victims to polish his shoes, which was rejected.

Mgabhi succumbed to a stab wound in the neck.

Dube yesterday pleaded guilty to culpable homicide, while his 16-year-old co-accused, pleaded guilty to assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm.

The two appeared at Mtubatuba Regional Court where the matter was adjourned to March 30 for pre-sentencing proceedings.

The court is expected to hear a report from a social worker, who would have interviewed all parties, who will also give a recommendation for a suitable sentence.

A correctional officer is also expected to testify.
