Ladysmith learner found with unlicensed ammunition

A high school learner was arrested in front of his classmates for possession of unlicensed ammunition in Ladysmith, KwaZulu-Natal, on Friday.

Ladysmith police, including the K9 Unit, were involved in a cordon and search operation held at a local high school. Narcotics dogs trained by the K9 Unit sniffed through classrooms and corridors to locate drugs, Ladysmith Gazette reported.

During the operation, police discovered one round of ammunition and a knife on one of the pupils. A 17-year-old boy was arrested and was later released into the custody of a family member.

The teenager will appear in the Ladysmith Magistrates’ Court on Friday. He faces charges of possession of unlicensed ammunition and possession of a dangerous weapon.

During the search, two boxes of cigarettes, five small dagga parcels, three knives and 13 dagga cigarettes were found abandoned.
