Limpopo cops arrest man (71) for murder of son

A 26-year-old man from a village in the province was found in a pool of blood after he was shot, allegedly by his father.

A 71-year-old man will appear in the Mankweng Magistrate’s Court soon, after he was arrested in connection with the murder and fatal shooting of his 26-year-old son on Saturday.

Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba says police received a complaint about a shooting in Malesela, Mentz village, outside Mankweng and found the victim in a pool of blood on arrival.

Emergency services were summoned to the scene and declared the victim dead.

“Police established that the victim was shot with a firearm on the upper body and preliminary investigations indicated that the victim was shot by his biological father who later locked himself inside the house,” his statement reads.

Police managed to negotiate with the suspect to vacate the house and he was arrested once he complied.

“During the arrest, police confiscated a revolver firearm that was used for the commission of the crime with three rounds of live ammunition and two empty cartridges,” Ledwaba says.

He adds the motive of the incident is unknown but will be determined through ongoing police investigations.
