Limpopo woman killed: Husband hands himself over

The man allegedly went into hiding in Kwa Mhlanga, Mpumalanga, after his wife's body was discovered by passersby in Dennilton in Limpopo.

The hunt for a 42-year-old man, who is suspected of killing his wife on July 3 during a heated argument, is over after he handed himself over at the Kwa Mhlanga Police Station in Mpumalanga.

The man was arrested after spending days on the run and being sought by police.

Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba says the victim’s body was discovered by the community in Moteti Extension Slovo, Dennilton, on July 3 and that the suspect was the last person to be seen with the victim. They were seen at a local tavern before leaving.

“It appears that while walking home, the duo had a heated argument and fought, resulting in the suspect fleeing the scene and the victim left in a pool of blood. The suspect went into hiding in Kwa Mhlanga,” he says.

The police and emergency services were called to the scene, and the woman was declared dead on arrival.

“A case of murder was opened, and a search operation for the suspect was launched. The motive for the killing is still unknown, and investigations continue,” Ledwaba says.

He adds that the suspect will appear before the Dennilton Magistrate’s Court soon on a charge of murder.

The provincial police commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has condemned the murder and noted an increase in gender-based violence incidents in the province.
