Loadshedding suspended as capacity improves
Eskom said the generation capacity has improved following the return of some generation units to service
Eskom has this evening announced the suspension of loadshedding from 11pm tonight.
The power utility said the generation capacity has improved following the return of some generation units to service.
In the past 24 hours, two generation units each at Kusile and Kriel have been returned to service while one unit at Tutuka has been returned to service.
Another two generation units are expected to return to service tomorrow, while emergency generation reserves have also adequately recovered.
Despite the good news, Eskom has requested that the public continue to use electricity sparingly as the system remains vulnerable and unpredictable.
“As Eskom has already stated, the risk of loadshedding remains elevated while we conduct increased reliability maintenance,” said the embattled power utility in a statement this evening.
There is currently 4 920MW on planned maintenance while another 13 897MW of capacity is unavailable owing to unplanned maintenance, breakdowns and outage delays.
Eskom said its teams are hard at work, returning as much of this capacity to service as possible.
