Man arrested for impersonating police
A man has been arrested for impersonating a police officer and for the possession of illegal substances in Boksburg, on Gauteng’s East Rand.
Boksburg North police communication officer Lieutenant Juanita Coetzer said two officers had been patrolling Yaldwin Road in Jet Park when they noticed a silver Corsa bakkie with a flashing blue light, Boksburg Advertiser reported.
“They stopped to enquire about the person using the blue light on a private vehicle,” said Coetzer.
“It was discovered that he is not a member of the police, and they accompanied the man to Boksburg North Police Station. Upon arrival, they searched the vehicle and found illegal substances, smoking pipes and a set of handcuffs.”
A packet of crystal meth with another smoking pipe had been found on the man’s body, Coetzer added.
Incidents of police impersonators continue to be reported.
Video footage shows Sundowner resident James Starkey struggling with a man who claimed to be a police officer from Johannesburg Central on Wednesday.
