Man assaults, drives over girlfriend
A woman (35) remains in a critical condition after she was allegedly assaulted with a brick and run over twice by her boyfriend in Bluff, KwaZulu-Natal.
It is believed the couple was involved in an argument, which drove the enraged boyfriend (22) to hit her on the head, Rising Sun Chatsworth reported.
The man allegedly proceeded to his car and drove over the woman twice before speeding off.
Brighton Beach police’s Constable Bongiwe Mfeke and Warrant Officer Sibusiso Mbambo, who were responding to a motor vehicle accident along Charl Malan Road, found the victim receiving medical attention on the road.
After receiving a description of the vehicle from a bystander, Mbambo searched the area, managed to trace the vehicle and apprehended the suspect.
The suspect was charged with attempted murder and appeared in the Durban Regional Court on Monday. He was remanded in police custody.
The victim remains in the King Edward Hospital after sustaining a major open-wound injury to the head and a fractured arm.
In a separate incident, a 30-year-old Hammanskraal man was sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment in the Moretele Magistrates’ Court for killing his girlfriend.
The accused, Simon Maluleka, assaulted his girlfriend at his home in Temba, near Pretoria, in May 2010.
The woman was taken to Jubilee Hospital and died from her injuries a few days later.
