Man denied bail for Joburg murder

A man charged with the murder of a woman in Paulshof, Johannesburg, on New Year’s Eve has been denied bail in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court.

Head of communications for the Sandton police Captain Kym Cloete said police received a call on January 1 about a body found on Mulberry Close in Paulshof, Sandton Chronicle reported.

Cloete added when police arrived on the scene, they found the woman (32) had been strangled to death, and her car was missing.

On January 3, the victim’s vehicle was recovered at Alberton, and the suspect was arrested, police said.

Cloete said the suspect was known to the victim as he had been doing work for her during the holiday season.

The suspect appeared in court yesterday on charges of murder and theft of a motor vehicle.

The suspect’s bail was opposed, and he has been remanded in custody.

Last week, 10 murder suspects were denied bail in the Mdantsane Magistrates’ Court, Eastern Cape.

The suspects allegedly beat a man to death on December 1 in what police believed was a mob justice attack.
