Maya the Bee released in SA languages
In celebration of Heritage month, Nu Metro cinemas across the country will be showing the big-screen adaptation of popular children’s book and TV series Maya the Bee in both IsiZulu and Afrikaans.
“Nu Metro Cinemas is excited about showing an international film dubbed into two of our nine official languages – along with its original English version,” said Nu Metro Cinemas’ marketing manager Nitesh Matai.
The film follows Maya, a young bee who leaves the hive and embarks on a new adventure to discover the beauty and mysteries of nature.
Released during Heritage Month, the Afrikaans- and Zulu-soundtracks were recorded for local audiences to enjoy the film in their home language but also for other audiences to learn a bit more about the wide variety of the official languages in South Africa, Randburg Sun reported.
Some of local voice actors include Christine Voorendyk, Sylvia Kgoadi in the titular roles as well as Jessie Palmer, Elma Potgieter, Gcina Mkhize Magda van Biljon, Cindy Dlatu, Francois Stemmet and Hamilton Dlamini.
The cast was employed by the film’s local distributor, in collaboration with the international producers, to record the localised versions of the film exclusively for South African cinemas.
Matai added: “We have a broad base of consumers representing all cultures and backgrounds, and we aim to keep on improving the cinema-going experience for all people to enjoy – now also in their mother tongue during Heritage Month.”
Maya the Bee is distributed by Black Sheep Films and will be available in 2D and 3D at Nu Metro cinemas across South Africa from September 18.
