Schalk Abraham ‘AB’ Steyn and Limpopo game farmer Dawie Groenewald, who face charges of illegal possession and transportation of rhino horns, briefly appeared in the Nelspruit Regional Court today.

Lowvelder reports the matter was postponed again, this time to January 21, 2026.

NPA spokesperson Monica Nyuswa confirmed the postponement.

“The attorneys were not ready to proceed with a pre-trial hearing. The advocate for the first accused was also not present in court. The attorney of the other accused submitted that they had filed representations to the director of Public Prosecutions’ office.”

Since their arrest, the case has seen multiple delays, from legal representation issues to the defence requesting further documentation from the state.

Steyn and Groenewald were arrested together on July 20, 2021, at a property in the Riverside area, where 19 rhino horns were allegedly found. They were granted bail of R50 000 each shortly afterwards.
