Mother watches as daughter is raped

A KwaZulu-Natal mother in Izingolweni watched helplessly as her 29-year-old daughter was raped.

Police spokesperson Captain Gerald Mfeka said a group of men had entered the family’s house in Mbeni Ward at about 1.30am last week when the mother and daughter had been sleeping, South Coast Herald reported.

The daughter claimed to have heard a sound in the kitchen. Soon afterwards the bedroom door was kicked open.

“One of the intruders grabbed the daughter, held a knife to her neck and raped her while her mother watched helplessly. Meanwhile, his accomplices were raiding the house,” said Mfeka.

The men fled with money, cellphones, shoes and groceries.

One person was later taken in by police for questioning.

In a separate incident, investigations are ongoing after the alleged rape of a 21-year-old woman in KwaMathukusa earlier this month.

It was alleged the victim had been promised employment by the suspect, Newcastle Advertiserreported.

The culprit was said to have instructed the victim to have a copy of her identity document ready for him to collect at her home in KwaMathukusa.

He allegedly arrived and found the victim home alone, where he later raped her.

Following the incident, police urged job seekers to verify the authenticity of jobs offered.
