Mpumalanga man arrested for raping granny

A man has been arrested in Mpumalanga after he was allegedly found to have repeatedly raped his 74-year-old grandmother.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Jabu Ndubane said a case had been opened, Mpumalanga News reported.

“We have arrested a man after he was found raping an elderly person. The suspect is expected to make an appearance in court very soon,” said Ndubane.

It was alleged the 51-year-old perpetrator had used his grandmother as a “sex slave”; he had allegedly carried the woman into his bedroom and raped her repeatedly.

Ndubane urged community members to be vigilant and report such incidents.

In November, a Johannesburg mother was arrested after admitting to selling her 16-year-old daughter as a sex slave.

The woman and her partner were later arrested after the girl reported the matter to police. A case of sexual assault was registered.

Norwood police spokesperson Sergeant Nurse Sanyane said the mother had showed no remorse for her alleged abuse.

“The mother said: ‘Yes, I did it. So what?’,” said Sanyane.

Police confirmed the case had been transferred to the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit for further investigation.
