Mpumalanga man shot execution-style

Two suspects have been shot dead after allegedly shooting a man execution-style in front of his wife at a braai in Hectorspruit, Mpumalanga.

Leon Christo Clur and his wife were reportedly having a family braai at about 8pm when they were approached in their lapa by two armed men, Lowvelder reported.

According to Komatipoort police spokesperson Captain Sarie van der Walt, the suspects ordered the family to be quiet before a scuffle broke out between Clur and the suspects, who then managed to push him to the floor.

“One of the suspects then shot him in the back of his head,” Van der Walt said.

Clur’s wife took the suspects into the house, where they reportedly stole two laptops, two iPhones, a wallet, a hunting rifle, a shotgun and ammunition before fleeing the scene.

Clur was then rushed to Mediclinic Nelspruit, where he died.

Police, assisted by local farmers, later managed to track the suspects down in the Marloth Park area of Mpumalanga

Upon being stopped by police, the suspects reportedly pointed a shotgun at an officer and the farmers, who then opened fire on the suspects, killing them both.

Two firearms, including a .38 revolver and a shotgun were found on the suspects.

Last year, a suspected robber was shot dead by police in Roodekop, in the east of Johannesburg.

Police said four people who had posed as customers at a scrapyard had confronted the owner with firearms and stole an undisclosed amount of cash.

The suspect had fired shots at police, who had returned fire and shot him dead, police said.
